“You saw me before I was born. Everyday of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” Psalm 136:16

I am a cancer survivor. This scripture brings me peace & comfort. Let me tell you why. It was given to me by another cancer survivor, a woman with whom I talked to regularly, who I friended on Facebook, and who I never met. She was part of a survivor group dispatched to contact others with this grave disease to offer support and encouragement. And boy, I needed some, and I needed it now! God knew my fear and he knew who would be the one “for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14). Funny though, I almost didn’t answer her call. I was too busy feeling “sorry for myself” mode, and it had been a while since I had visited the cancer center after my initial diagnosis.

But I did answer. “You know, God knew the number of your days before you ever lived one of them.” She said after introducing herself. The crazy thing about all this is, she didn’t know I was a believer. But she was not silent. She was bold in her calling to minister God’s grace to whoever was on the other end of her phone call. She has since gone home to heaven. She never missed a beat in God’s Kingdom & I miss our conversations.

Fast forward a year later, and I was sitting in church with friends in Jacksonville, Florida, listening to the pastor give a message from the book of Job. Sitting there, I felt a calling to write about issues of health & wellness; to use my gift of words and pen to minister to others, and to pay forward what “my Esther” unselfishly gave to me on that bright summer day when the phone rang.
