“With the moon on their wings … These are a few of my favorite things“ ~ Julie Andrews
Sound of Music ~ Rodgers & Hammerstein
Welcome to my list of FAVORITES. Here you will find some of my top items for travel & maybe a tidbit or two. My grandkids proving that the hills are still alive and worthy of an all-out frolic. To help you spend more time frolicking and less time wondering, here are some of my favorite travel ideas, places to visit, stay, & eat. But don’t be afraid to explore. You may find a little gem out there you never expected. That’s what happened to me and my friends in 2019 on our very last day in Ireland. The hotel concierge said, “go visit Cong. It’s a beautiful little village just up the road. It’s where they filmed the Quiet Man.” Well, he wasn’t wrong. It was the best skip we took the entire trip and is a must stop every time we go.
CONG, IRELAND: Stay at Lydon’s Lodge, eat at Puddleducks, and grab a pint in Pat Cohen’s. Take the Quiet Man Tour, visit Cong Abbey, hike the , walk the road to Ashford Castle and stop at St Mary’s Anglican Church, or take a boat ride to Inchagoill Island [Island of the Foreigner]. Don’t forget to check out the shops, visitors center, Quiet Man Museum.
Belfast, NI and the Titanic Experience, George’s Market; Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge; Giant’s Causeway. Another wonderful place to stay and explore is Portstewart & Omagh when in Northern, Ireland. When in Omagh, a must stop is the American Folk Park. When in Belfast, The Crown Bar is the place for nightlife in a SNUG or dinner in the upstairs dining. Absolutely delightful.
TIP: Pubs have the best food!
Dingle, Blasket Islands Museum, Killarney, Kinsale & Blarney. The best part of self drive in Ireland is getting lost and finding little communities you would never have known existed. Of course, a ferry ride to Inismor, Aran Island is a must. In fact, a visit to all the Aran’s would make an exciting few days.
Also, you will find some of my favorite travel gadgets to make the journey feel like your favorite cozy blanket. Whether it’s items to ease the airport shuffle, the plane ride, and hotel life TO feeling safe and secure and ready to embrace the adventure ahead.
